3 - Today's ATTITUDE Give Me Possibilities


To begin this chapter Maxwell points out the first of his Daily Dozen, Attitude. It is amazing the impact that our attitude can have on our daily life:

  1. Your attitude at the beginning of a task affects its outcome more than anything else.

  2. Your attitude toward others often determines their attitude toward you.

  3. Your attitude can give you a winner’s perspective.

  4. Your attitude, not your achievements, gives you happiness.

  5. Your attitude is contagious.

He continues by adding that our attitude is something that we can control. Maxwell then outlines some points that will help us have a positive attitude daily.

  1. Take responsibility for your attitude.

  2. Decide to change your bad attitude areas.

  3. Think, act, talk and conduct yourself like the person you want to become.

  4. Place a high value on people.

  5. Develop a high appreciation for life.

From there, Maxwell shows us how we can manage the transformation of our attitude. He gives us his step by step philosophy to help us achieve this:

  1. Recognize that your attitude needs daily adjustment.

  2. Find something positive in everything.

  3. Find someone positive in every situation.

  4. Say something positive in every conversation.

  5. Remove negative words from your vocabulary.

  6. Express gratitude to others daily.

To wrap up the chapter, Maxwell leaves us with some ideas to try on a daily basis to improve our attitude. First we must identify what we want to achieve attitude wise for the day, and make an effort to use it in our daily lives. Next, look at all the negative attitudes you have, think about how you can have a positive response to them, and try to focus on that positive responses for the day. Then on a daily basis make sure that you thank someone. One that I have started to use is next, find a positive quote for the week, and put it somewhere that you will see it often. Finally, when you encounter someone in the day, start it with a positive gesture.

These are all great ideas from this chapter, and I have started applying them in my days. It is amazing how these simple ideas bring forth a positive attitude and have made my days better!
