5 - Today’s HEALTH Gives Me Strength


Health is the third of Maxwell’s daily dozen. This is a topic very near and dear to my heart because of some of the health issues I have had in my life, but this chapter shows me that this is an extremely important area to focus on. In this chapter, Maxwell shares with us some of his own bad health experiences and shares with us that it is something that we certainly need to focus on every day, and should not take for granted. He points out that even the smallest health issue (ie. Tooth ache) will have an effect on our mood, focus, and even our spiritual endeavors. Maxwell adds an interesting quote, “People are funny. When they are young, they spend their health to get wealth. Later, they will gladly pay all they have trying to get their health back!”

Maxwell then lists some suggestions to keep a dedication to maintaining our health:

  1. Have a purpose worth living for.

  2. Do work you enjoy.

  3. Find your pace.

  4. Accept your personal worth.

  5. Laugh.

With these Maxwell also recommends the way he maintains his daily healthy lifestyle:

  1. Eat right

  2. Exercise

  3. Handle stress effectively

This is a chapter that helped me to realize that health truly is one of the most important factors in life. After evaluating my eating habits (overeating) I am certainly going to begin applying these new habits to my daily life to create a healthy lifestyle.

To close out the chapter, Maxwell lists a great quote from Jack LaLanne that reads, “I never think of age, I think about today; I don’t think about tomorrow. I think about this moment and what I am going to do.”
